Volunteer Day: Lazure Painting

  • Bright Haven Farm 10020 Hambright Road Huntersville, NC, 28078 United States (map)

It’s time to beautify our event space!

If you love to play in paint, spend time in community and be creative, then join us for a community effort to paint the barn walls! We will be using a technique called Lazure Painting, typically found in Waldolf style settings, to create a holographic rainbow effect. Svetlana Zabolotnaia, formally a Waldolf instructor, will be teaching us how to implement this beautiful style of art. All paint materials will be provided. Drop in any time between 11am and 6pm.

Please RSVP here so we know how many to expect: https://forms.gle/pR8f9bpNNEJ6MsUE8

What is Lazure Painting?

The Lazure technique was originally developed by Rudolph Steiner in the 1930s. He believed that "breathing" color creates nurturing spaces between the astral and etheric bodies of humans. Lazure painting could be considered as the graphic equivalent of music and dance–a color conversation.

Ultimately, Lazure is a time-consuming choice of wall dressing, as it is many, many layers of carefully blended and watered-down paints– it is a process that can’t be rushed. Lazure is a meditation on patience and manifestation. The technique requires brushing small amounts of paint on the wall in a figure-eight pattern (the infinity symbol), almost as a spell in action. With Lazure, we create a space that is filled with intention, painted with symbolism, and takes great patience and consciousness to create. If we consider that a spell, in the simplest sense, is action with specific intent and mindfulness, a lazured wall is very much these things. When we imagine that color is our magical medium, and that our action is a living symbolism, the whole space is a working spell, aligned with our intent for experience and function. It is easy to see how Steiner could parallel it with a spiritual experience.
